Julie Gallagher is based at the Eastman Dental Hospital and Institute in London. She currently works one day a week as a tutor dentist, providing clinical supervision and classroom teaching for student dental hygienists and student dental therapists. She has over thirty years’ experience in the salaried dental service, providing care for children and adults with additional needs. A keen recreational triathlete, Julie embarked on her PhD project, investigating the epidemiology of oral health and impact on performance elite athletes, as a part time student in September 2014. She is delighted to have received the BASEM research bursary award 2018, which will support the development and evaluation of an intervention which aims to improve oral health in sport.
