Find below a list of our most frequently asked questions that we have put together to give you help when joining BASEM and as an existing BASEM member
Below are question you may have when you are looking to join BASEM.
To join BASEM, click on the “Become a Member” button at top right of the screen on the BASEM website and follow the prompts.
The cost of membership varies between £25-£195, depending which membership category you are eligible for.
Membership of BASEM is encouraged for all those who are suitably qualified and involved in the care and welfare of the exercising individual.
There are 4 membership categories to choose from. These are:-
Full membership is available to Doctors of Medicine and Allied Health Professionals eligible and registered to work within the UK
Overseas membership is available to Doctors of Medicine and Allied Health Professionals not registered to work in the UK, but working overseas.
Undergraduate Student membership is generic and available to all full-time undergraduate students studying an undergraduate course relating to SEM at a UK University. Overseas undergraduate students will be considered.
Concessionary membership is available at the discretion of the BASEM Executive Board. This is only available to the following representatives of the SEM community :-
Full-time Postgraduate SEM students studying at a UK University
Doctors of Medicine in their Foundation Years 1 and 2 of training
Newly Qualified Sports Practitioners in their 1st or 2nd year of training
Sport and Exercise Medicine Trainees on the Specialty Training Programme
You can join at any time of the year and your subscription starts on the date you apply to join. The subscription lasts for a period of 12 months (minimum membership period) and becomes due for renewal on the annual anniversary of the subscription start date.

When you apply for membership of BASEM online, there may be up to 3 working days before you are notified that you are a BASEM member. This is to ensure your supporting information is valid. During times of annual leave this may be longer. If you are concerned you have not heard anything after 3 working days, please contact membership@basem.co.uk.
All categories of membership except for undergraduate students receive voting rights. You are allowed to vote as soon as your application is approved by the BASEM Executive Board. The approval takes place at the scheduled Executive Board meeting following the date of your application.
Access to the members’ area of the BASEM website enables you to update your profile, renew your subscription, online access to the BASEM Today, BJSM, BASEM E-Learning Portal, membership discounts and much more.
The members’ area of the BASEM website is accessed by clicking on the red login button, top right of a page on the BASEM website and inputting your login details.
Your user name is your email address you used on application. You can always contact the BASEM office is you are unsure.
When you try and log into the members’ area, you just need to click on the forgotten password button and follow the instructions.
On the log in page, you need to input your user name and click on the forgotten password button. This will send you a link to reset your password.
It may be because your membership subscription has expired due to payment details not being correct. You can still log in and provide your credit/debit card payments for payment to make your subscription active again.
It may be your subscription has been suspended for some reason. In any case, this needs investigating, so please contact membership@basem.co.uk so that your enquiry can be answered as quickly and efficiently as possible.
