Research: SAFE-Knee Study – Sonographic Assessment of Knee Effusion in Acute Knee Injuries in A&E Settings – evaluating the Accuracy of Reproducible Effusion Assessments by Medically Trained Personnel with Basic Sonographic Skills
Bio: Stefan is a Consultant Physician specialising in Sport and Exercise Medicine and clinical academic.โฏHe works as a clinical Associate professor, NHS Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine and Senior Sport Physician for English institute of Sport. โฏStefan leads a team of researchers that study common conditions affecting active population starting from metabolic, injury and arthritis.
Stefan believes that tackling common musculoskeletal problems and inactivity will reduce medical comorbidity in middle and older age โ and it is the next big frontier of modern medicine.
Stefan is currently a clinical associate Professor in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He leads research group interested in injuries and illnesses affecting the active population and the consequences of the common causes of chronic muscle and joint pain, including metabolic and hormonal problems. He teaches functional musculoskeletal anatomy at the University of Nottingham and clinical medicine at Oxford. He also set up an ultrasound-guided injection cadaver course for doctors. Stefan received his medical training in the North East of England before finishing his academic and consultant training at Oxford. While there, he also pursued masterโs and doctoral degrees in science, researching the clinical markers linked to joint injuries and osteoarthritis. โฏStefan also has two years of experience as an Academic Clinical Lecturer and Clinician scientist at the University of Oxford. Stefan hopes to work with BASEM to further academic and clinical SEM research and education in the UK.
