Hi, I’m Allegra! I’m an FY1, soon to be FY2, currently working at Bedford Hospital. I was a member of the USEMS committee last year, acting as Social Media Officer, and I’m pleased to be taking on the role of Vice President this year alongside Kudzi.
My interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) stems from my own experience competing in county cross-country running at school and university, as well as taking up road cycling and strength training more recently.
I completed an iBSc in SEM during my MBBS at UCL, which further strengthened my interest in the specialty. I also undertook a SEM-themed elective in Australia, where I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of athletes in both clinic-based and pitch side settings. In addition, I have volunteered with medical teams at mass participation events, including the London Marathon, which gave further insight into the specialty.
I am also interested in SEM research and have been involved in a paper exploring the value of student-led initiatives in SEM education, as well as papers discussing the relationship between metabolic health and musculoskeletal (MSK) health, and menopause and MSK health.
I’m really looking forward to being part of the USEMS team again and to seeing what we can achieve over the next year!
