Kate Jackson is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician and a Clinical Researcher at the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis at Oxford University.

Kate is currently involved in a three-year research project assessing the short-term and long-term health effects of being a professional jockey, funded by the Racing Foundation and BASEM. Kate is also part of the User Group for the ACHE Project at Oxford University – an HTA grant funded project developing a tool to help GP’s recognise patients who are candidates for joint replacement.

Previous research for the Centre includes:

• Delphi expert consensus study looking at predictors of hip OA in the young, active population with hip pain;
• Physical activity and osteoarthritis. A consensus study to harmonise measures of physical activity across international cohorts
• National scoping project assessing current exercise rehabilitation service provision in eleven chronic disease areas
• The Cost-Effectiveness of Exercise-based Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Review

Kate works as an Academy Doctor and WSL Doctor for Oxford United Football Club. She provides clinics for the English Institute of Sport at Bisham Abbey. She provides pitch-side medical care for Abingdon School rugby. She has previously worked for the Ministry of Defence, England Netball and at the London 2012 Olympics.

Kate is Clinical Tutor and Examiner for the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath. She is Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine. She is also a Full Member of British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine and was part of the organising committee for BASEM Conference 2013.
