Julie Gallagher is an honorary research fellow at University College London, based at the Eastman Dental Institute Centre for Oral Health and Performance. Now retired from the NHS as a clinician, she worked as a dentist for more than thirty years, providing care for children and adults with additional needs. Julie was also a tutor dentist at the Eastman Dental Hospital Education centre, providing clinical supervision and classroom teaching for student dental hygienists and student dental therapists. Julie was a recipient of a BASEM research bursary award in 2018, that facilitated an oral health behaviour change intervention study with elite athletes.
She was awarded PhD, โOral health of elite athletes and impact on performanceโ in March 2020. She has published research papers in both dental and SEM journals. A keen recreational triathlete, Julie completed Ironman Italy in 2022. She is honoured to have the opportunity to โgive something backโ as part of the BASEM awards committee.
