Rehabilitation Considerations in Athletes with Athletic Hip and Groin Pain

This session will focus on

  • Key Clinical Markers - using a combination of the clinical tests and use of force frame
  • Motor Control hip and pelvis โ€“ identifying and targeting motor control deficits not identified in strength assessment
  • Running and Change of Direction Mechanics โ€“ through a combination of videos highlighting deficits in specific cases and then practical showing a few exercises.

Mr Dermot Simpson is a Senior Physiotherapist at Aspetar Sports Hospital with expertise in hamstring, rectus femoris, and groin injuries. He graduated from University College Dublin in 2011 and went on to complete a Masters degree in Sports Physiotherapy in 2014.

Before joining Aspetar in 2015, he worked with elite-level Gaelic football athletes in Ireland, culminating in an All-Ireland final win in 2012. Over the past decade at Aspetar, Dermot has treated numerous high-performance athletes, including Olympic champions and World Cup winners. He was part of the Qatar National Football Teamโ€™s medical staff for two years, contributing to their Asian Cup victory in 2019.

Mr Simpson has recently presented at global conferences in cities such as Melbourne, Sรฃo Paulo, and Milan. He also served as the lead author of the recently published The Aspetar Way – Hamstring Injury Pathway.

Based at Aspetar, Enda is the Head of Elite Performance and Development. He is a world leading rehabilitation expert specialising in hip and groin and the ACL. Enda has previously led the development and delivery of ACL and athletic groin pain clinical and research pathways and managed an elite athlete rehabilitation programme catering for players from the Premier League, NBA, NFL, NHL, Premiership Rugby, European Tour Golf, National Hunt Racing, AFL and UFC. As an educator, has presented at scientific conferences, courses and workshops and consulted for elite teams worldwide โ€“ in particular with relation to ACL rehabilitation, athletic groin pain and chronic and recurrent lower limb muscle and tendon issues. As an academic he has over 50 peer reviewed publications and book chapters relating to rehabilitation.
