Medals and Motherhood: Managing Performance in the Perinatal Athlete

1:40
Thursday
Ricoh Lounge South

The intersection of elite athletic performance and motherhood presents unique physical, psychological, and societal challenges. This session will explore the experiences of perinatal athletesโ€”those navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and elite sports simultaneouslyโ€”and the strategies used to enable them to manage all these demands and maintain high levels of performance.

The presentation includes insights from elite athletes who have successfully navigated this journey, offering real-world perspectives on overcoming obstacles and achieving balance. As well as the athlete perspective the roles and work of the MDT to support these athletes will be discussed offering insights for all those involved. As an emerging area of practice within sports medicine, this session will bring together the available evidence from the research and emerging clinical practice perspectives.
