This session will explore the "Aspetar Way" as a structured approach to phased rehabilitation, using a component-based framework designed to target multiple physical qualities throughout recovery. Emphasising assessment-guided progression, the approach ensures individualised, objective-driven rehabilitation. The session will also highlight how this approach can be effectively applied to the contact athlete, addressing the unique demands of collision sports and optimising return-to-play outcomes.

Mr Matthew Rees is a Senior Physiotherapist at Aspetar, where he leads the Shoulder Rehabilitation team and plays a key role in developing the departmentโs rehabilitation pathways. With over a decade of experience in elite sport (2009โ2023), he brings extensive expertise from high-performance environments.
Matthewโs career began through the UK Sport Fast Track Practitioner programme, where he worked across multiple disciplines in a multi-sport setting. Prior to joining Aspetar, he led medical departments in both professional rugby union and academy football, demonstrating strong leadership in team-based and youth development contexts.
Mr Rees holds a postgraduate qualification in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath and remains deeply committed to advancing clinical practice and fostering collaborative, evidence-informed rehabilitation strategies.
