Beyond the Game: Tackling Pelvic Health & Fertility Challenges in Female Athletes

This session will explore the intersection of gynaecology and sport and exercise medicine, focussing on the unique challenges faced by women in sport. Our clinical experts Dr Jen Barcroft, Dr Kate Panter and Ms Grainne Donnelly will offer practical insights and spark meaningful discussion on how we can better support female athletes on and off the field of play.

Delegates will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore fertility concerns and how they may influence athletic careers
  • Understand gynaecological conditions that can affect training, performance, and wellbeing in female athletes
  • Explore the importance of pelvic health and consider the pivotal role of pelvic health physiotherapy in supporting female athletes

Sport and Exercise Medicine Resident Doctor and GP; GB Senior Womenโ€™s Basketball Team Doctor

Dr Linda Evans is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Resident Doctor and GP based in Leeds. She has called Yorkshire home since 2008, when she began her undergraduate studies in Natural Sciences, later going on to complete her medical degree (MBChB) and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine all at the University of Leeds. In 2021, she became a Member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine while undertaking GP training in Leeds.

Linda is currently Team Doctor for the Great Britain Senior Women’s Basketball Team and her previous work spans a wide range of sports, including football, rugby league, judo, athletics, and both track and road cycling. She also held the role of Venue Medical Manager at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

She has a particular interest in female athlete health and is passionate about helping elite sportswomen reach their full potential. Linda is Deputy Chair of Women in Sport and Exercise Medicine, an organisation that supports women working in the field, and she also sits on the Rugby Football League’s Women’s Health Independent Advisory Group.

Following the success of the female athlete health session she led at the 2024 BASEM Conference, Dr Evans now heads up a dedicated one-day stream on the topic at the 2025 event.
