The talk will provide an overview of the gynaecological problems commonly seen in female athletes. It will cover key signs to look out for, how these issues may present differently in athletes, and it will offer practical guidance on initial management.
The session will also highlight when referral is appropriate, in order to provide timely, informed care that prioritises both performance and long-term health.

Dr Kate Panter is a Consultant Gynaecologist based in South-West London.ย She holds an MD from the University of London and completed a fellowship at the University of Toronto. A former elite rower, she won three Womenโs Boat Races for the University of Cambridge and represented Great Britain at both junior and senior levels, culminating in her participation in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Her background in sport led to a particular interest in sports gynaecology, which she has developed throughout her medical career. Dr Panter was an accredited gynaecologist for the London 2012 Olympics and has served as a specialist advisor to the UK Institute of Sport.
She is a British Menopause Society (BMS) Menopause Specialist and trainer, a long-standing member of the BMS since 2009, and was elected to its Scientific Council for the 2019 – 2025 term. Kate is also a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Parkside Hospital. In addition, she co-chaired the Everitt-Butterfield Fellowship Committee, which successfully raised ยฃ1 million to endow a post-doctoral biomedical research fellowship at the University of Cambridge.
Dr Panterโs previous NHS roles include Consultant Gynaecologist at Kingston NHS Trust (2001 – 2009) and Honorary Consultant at the Menopause Clinic at Guyโs and St Thomasโ (2024).
