Injuries are common in athletics and are usually associated with a reduction of cessation of training. In the context of elite sports, for many athletes a training modification is typically considered as a last option. In addition tight competition schedules and back-to-back heats put a high demand on athletes. Most injuries in athletics affect muscle, tendon or bone tissues. Surgical options are typically reserved for off-season and severe injuries. Conservative treatments, such as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) and Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT), can represent effective options especially for the in-season athlete.
In this workshop, Prof. Karsten Hollander will present the emerging research and evidence ofย ESWT and EMTT and show how he uses these conservative treatments for his work with elite athletes.
