2024 Long-term Risk of Concussion: What is the Current Evidence?

11:50
Thursday
Premier Lounge South

The Former Elite Level Athlete Brain Health Research Programme has been operational since 2013. Originally designed as a longitudinal study of brain health in rugby league players and non-athlete, healthy community control subjects, the programme has since expanded to include participants from other collision sports, as well as a comparison group of former elite athletes from non-collision sports.

Participants undergo a clinical interview and complete a series of health questionnaires online. In addition, they participate in an in-person evaluation that includes cognitive testing and neuroimaging via MRI. Participants and their families also have the option to donate their brains for posthumous neuropathological investigation.

This presentation will provide an overview of the programme and a summary of the results to date.
