This session discusses the role of exercise medicine in cancer including the opportunities and contribution of Sport and Exercise Medicine. Our internationally renowned speakers will consider the evidence that shows the profound benefits of exercise for people living with cancer, both in acute and longitudinal contexts, including how it can help reduce symptoms and side effects, in addition to enhancing the immune system.
This session will also explore if, and how, for people with some cancers, exercise can help reduce the risk of recurrence and increase survival.ย Despite the well-established field of exercise oncology showing significant improvements in patient outcomes through prehabilitation and rehabilitation, this session also explores how the integration into NHS care remains a challenge.
